300

300 is a film adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel with the same name. 300 opened to large audiences and massive media attention March 9, 2007. The film depicts a fictionalized version of the Battle of Thermophylae, where a vastly outnumbered group of Greeks managed to fend off the invading Persian Army. The film uses the same mythological exaggerations and imagery to recreate the original comic shot for shot.

Reaction from Iran

300's depiction of the Xerxes' ancient persian infantry as a murderous army of monsters drew sharp criticism from both historians and state officials in Iran. Iranian President publicly decried the film and the Iranian Academy of the Arts filed a formal complaint to UNESCO claiming the film attacked Persian heritage.
