The 2007 film 3:10 to Yuma is based on the same story by Elmore Leonard as the 1957 film of the same name. In the latest version, Christian Bale stars as a rancher who must transport outlaw Russell Crowe to the eponymous train before his loyal men can catch up. The film was directed by Walk the Line veteran James Mangold.
Background
Mangold and Colubmia Pictures had initially agreed to adapt 3:10 in 2003, but the project went on hold until 2006, after Mangold had completed his Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
Other actors considered for roles in the film before the casting of Bale and Crowe include Tom Cruise and Eric Bana. An accident on the set that led to a horse being euthanized led to an investigation by the American Humane Association.
Filming began on October 23, 2006 and ended on January 20, 2007. Most of the filming was done in New Mexico's Cerro Pelon Ranch.
