2038 Bug

Member Note

Like the expected, but resultingly inconsequential Y2K Bug, the 2038 bug involves a potential computer time count problem that may occur in 2038.

Background

Unix-based programs and systems count time using a 4-byte integer that marks the beginning of time as January 1, 1970. On January 19, 2038, this 4-byte integer will have reached its maximum value, which could cause systems to crash or experience time recording difficulties.*DisasterCountdown.com: Event: Y2K38
