The World Series of Poker is a televised event that has been held annually since 1970. 2010 will be the 40th year of the poker tournament. The point of the tournament is to decide who the top poker player in the world for that year. The World Series of Poker began with thirty gamblers who sat down at poker tables and played until only one winner was left. 2010 World Series of Poker

The 2010 World Series of Poker will begin on May 27, 2010. It will be televised exclusively on ESPN from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and a slate of the game’s most popular variations will be running from May 27-July 17, 2010. A total of 57 gold bracelets will be up for grabs during this tournament. World Series of Poker History

It wasn’t until 1973 that the World Series of Poker was televised. While the Poker tournament was televised it took a few more years before the tournament gained popularity and excitement. http://www.wsop.com/wsop/history.asp The 1990’s were a major decade for the World Series of Poker. First, in 1990, it was the first year a non-American would win the Poker tournament. Mansour Matloubi, an Iranian-born expatriot resided in England and won in 1990. Then, the following year in 1991, it was the first year that a million dollar cash prize was given out. The Main Event attracted over two hundred players the first year it took place. The following five years over three hundred people would play in the tournament. http://www.wsop.com/wsop/history.asp Finally, in 2006, the World Series of Poker was made up of 45 tournaments all awarding gold bracelets to the winner.
