The 2010 MLB Division Series was the first of three rounds of the 2010 MLB Playoffs. The series began on October 6, 2010. MLB Postseason Qualification
Under current Major League Baseball rules, the top team in each of the six divisions automatically qualifies to play in the MLB Playoffs. The three teams in each the National League and American League are joined by a fourth wild-card team to complete the eight-team playoff field. The divisional winners in each league with the best regular-season record receive home-field advantage in the Division Series, hosting games one and two, plus game five if necessary.
