When the award winner was named for the 2010 CMT Music Awards Collaborative Video of the Year, it was a first time winner in this category for Hillbilly Bone performers Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins. The collaborative video award is given to the best video featuring a collaborative appearance by artists. Along with all of the other CMT Music awards, the selection of the winner for this award is made by fan vote. Fans voted for a preliminary list of nominees and the tallying of votes resulted in the final nominees being selected. The 2010 CMT Music Award winners were named on June 9, 2010 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Kid Rock hosted the event where winners were given Belt Buckle Trophies presented by country music stars. Voting took place through June 8 via CMT.com. For the category of Video of the Year, the voting continued through the show with the finalist being announced at the beginning of the event. Performances by country music stars were intermingled with the awards presentations. This CMT Music Award category has not named a winner in all years. It has been an established category since 2002 when Willie Nelson and Lee Ann Womack won the first award for their video "Mendocino County Line". Nelson repeated on the win list for this category again in 2004 with "Beer For My Horses". Bon Jovi and Brad Paisley are both named winners in this award category on two different occasions also.
