Since 1984, the magazine US News and World Report has published a ranking of U.S. colleges that is referred to as America's Best Colleges. Criticism

Other Rankings
Although the U.S. News rankings get quite a bit of press when they are published, there are other college rankings published as well. Princeton Review publishes an annual report on the 368 Best Colleges which provides detailed information about each school reviewed, for example.
