Of the 3,600 films and documentaries that were submitted for consideration to the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, 121 were selected for showcase.
31 projects were awarded at the festival, with Man on Wire, King of Ping Pong, Sleep Dealer and Ballast winning more than once.
Of the award winners, 6 received distribution deals; 12 films that were not awarded also landed distribution.
Key "Grand Jury Prize" winners included the feature Frozen River, about two women who smuggle illegal immigrants across the frozen St. Lawrence River to earn extra money. Another winner was Trouble the Water, a documentary that follows a struggling couple in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
