  • The 2008 North Carolina Primary was held on May 6, 2008. 134 delegates were at stake for the Democratic Party and 69 for the Republicans.

Barack Obama won the contest with 58 percent to Hillary Rodham Clinton's 42 percent. 91 percent of African Amercian's voted for Obama.

Polls taken before the primary gave Barack Obama a small lead in the state and his victory was not a surprise. Before the primary, pollsters predicted that Clinton would lose North Carolina by around 7%.

A primary contest also took place in Indiana on the same day, a contest Clinton won. The Clinton campaign conceded that if she had lost both of the contests she would have been forced out of the race.

Both candidates were jetting between Indiana and North Carolina on May 5.

North Carolina is allocated 134 delegates at 2008 Democratic National Convention. Registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters can participate in the vote.
