Comedian Mike Myers hosted the show, which aired live on MTV on June 1, 2008. Some of the biggest winners of the night included the movie Transformers, and actors Johnny Depp, Ellen Page and Zac Efron.

2007's Transformers was named best film, while actress Ellen Page took home the golden popcorn trophy for best female performance in Juno. Actor Will Smith won best male performance for I Am Legend.

Actor Johnny Depp grabbed two awards: one for best villain in Sweeney Todd and another for best comedic performance in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Tom Cruise presented Adam Sandler with the 2008 Generation Award for his role in entertaining MTV viewers.
