  • The 2008 Kentucky Primary was held on May 20, 2008.

    Clinton was expected to win the state easily and, on the day, Hillary Rodham Clinton was declared the winner very soon after polls closed. When all the results were in, Clinton won by 65% to Obama's 30%.

    60 delegates are at stake for the Democratic Party and 45 for the Republicans.

    Polls showed Senator Hillary Clinton with a big lead over Senator Barack Obama in the days leading up to the primary.

    Clinton campaigned extensively throughout the Bluegrass State ahead of the election, while Obama focused primarily on the Oregon primary, held on the same day.

    3. 17-29 year olds: 54% voted for Clinton; 41% for Obama

    5. 45-64 year olds: 67% voted for Clinton; 29% for Obama
    6. 64 and over: 78% voted for Clinton; 18% for Obama

    1. 94% of Clinton voters thought she was the most likely to win in November
    2. 79% of Obama voters thought he was the most likely to win in November
    3. 56% of voters thought that Obama should pick Clinton as a Vice President
    4. Gender of the candidate was not important to 36% of men and 46% of women

  • Pre-Primary Polls

    Hillary Clinton was hoping for a big win in Kentucky, and the majority of the polls ahead of primary day indicated she would get her wish. Most had Clinton with a substantial 30% lead over Barack Obama among the state's Democratic voters.
