The 2008 Florida Primary was held on January 29, 2008. McCain defeated Romney in a close race for the Republicans. The Democratic race, won by Hillary Clinton, was moot because Democratic Party rules forbade the state from holding its primary before February 5. When Florida moved its primary to January 29, the state was stripped of its delegates. On March 2, Florida governor Charlie Crist said that he would support a repeat of the primary and the re-seating of its delegates -- a suggestion which echoed similar statements by the winning Clinton campaign.
