The 2006 Israel-Lebanon Conflict was a military conflict in Lebanon and northern Israel. The principal fighting was between Hezbollah paramilitary forces and the Israeli military. The fighting began when Hezbollah fighters fired rockets into Israel border towns and attacked two Israeli Humvees patrolling the border. Over a thousand people, mostly Lebanese civilians, were killed in the fighting which lasted from July 12, 2006 to September 8, 2006. In addition to fatalities, more than 974,184 Lebanese and between 300,000-500,000 Israelis were displaced, most of which have been able to return to their homes since the ceasefire. Allegations of war crimes have been levied against both sides, with most charges related to the specific targeting of civilians.
