October 22: Tropical Storm Alpha forms in the Atlantic Ocean, the 22nd named storm of the season makes 2005 the most active storm season in recorded history.
October 27: George W. Bush Supreme Court nomination Harriet Miers withdraws after heavy criticism from conservatives.
