September 2001
- September 11: 19 Terrorists affiliated with Al Qaeda hijack four airplanes and crashed them into American landmarks, World Trade Center and the Pentagon. 2,974 people died in the attack.
- September 13: Secretary of State Colin Powell names Osama Bin Laden as the prime suspect in the 9-11 terrorism attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon
- September 20: George W. Bush names Tom Ridge the first Secretary of the newly created U.S. Department of Homeland Security
- September 21: Congress approves $15 Billion dollars worth of federal bailout money to the Airline Industry
October 2001
- October 7: The Afghanistan War begins as the United States and United Kingdom begun air strikes against Taliban targets.
- October 21: A Washington DC Postal worker becomes the 3rd victim of an Anthrax Attack.
- October 24: Two trucks collide inside the Gotthard Road Tunnel in Switzerland causing a fire and killing 11 people.
- October 26: Authorities are given a broader ability to search, seize, detain and eavesdrop on Terrorists and American citizens after the Patriot Act is signed into law by George W. Bush.
November 2001
- November 16: A letter on its way to Senator Patrick Leahy is intercepted and found to be containing Anthrax.
- November 28: Enron collapses after a deal with Dynegy failed to materialize.
December 2001
- December 2: Enron filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
- December 27: The United States announces that Guantanamo Bay will be used as a prison to hold suspects in the War on Terror.
