2000

The year 2000 (MMV) of the Gregorian Calendar began on a Saturday and ended on a Sunday. This was the first century leap year since 1600. The year 2000 was designated World Mathematical Year and also International year for the culture of peace. During the year America Online announced an agreement to purchase Time Warner for $162 billion, Windows 2000 was released and Microsoft is ruled to have put an oppressive thumb on it's competitors.

Brazil celebrated it's 500th anniversary, India reaches 1 billion population, and France win Euro 2000. The Olympics are held in Sydney, Australia. In Politics, George Bush controversially wins the closest ever American Presidential election over Al Gore and the world population continues to rise and goes past 6 billion people for the first time.

October 12: Osama Bin Laden is blamed for orchestrating an attack against the USS Cole which was parked at a harbor in Yemen.

November 2000

November 7: First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton wins a seat in the U.S. Senate representing the State of New York. The first, first lady to achieve such an accomplishment.

November 21: The Florida Supreme Court grants Al Gore's request to continue with a recount of the Election Results. However days later The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear George W. Bush's appeal of the Florida high court ruling allowing hand recounts to proceed.

November 23: Miami-Dade County in Florida refused to recount their ballots, and were not forced to by the Florida Supreme Court. A major setback for the Al Gore campaign in their efforts to win the state of Florida and the Presidency.

November 24: The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to consider George W. Bush's appeal against the hand recounting of presidential ballots in Florida.

November 26: Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris certified George W. Bush the winner of the state over Al Gore in the state's presidential balloting by 537 votes.

November 28: Bush v. Gore: George W. Bush's lawyers asked the U.S. Supreme Court to bring "legal finality" to the 2000 Election. Al Gore opposed the idea of the Supreme Court interfering from Florida's recount.

December 2000

December 1 Vicente Fox is sworn in as Mexico's 35th President, and the first member of the opposition to win in 71 years.

December 4: A Florida state judge refused to overturn Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush's certified victory in Florida.

December 9: 2000 American Presidential Election: The U.S. Supreme Court halts the Florida presidential vote count.

December 10: MLB franchise, Texas Rangers sign Alex Rodriguez to a 10-year 252 Million dollar contract, the most lucrative in history.

December 14: The FCC approves the merger between AOL and Time Warner worth $111 Billion.

December 16: George W. Bush names Colin Powell as his Secretary of State.

December 22: Madonna marries film director Guy Ritchie
