The year 2000 (MMV) of the Gregorian Calendar began on a Saturday and ended on a Sunday. This was the first century leap year since 1600. The year 2000 was designated World Mathematical Year and also International year for the culture of peace. During the year America Online announced an agreement to purchase Time Warner for $162 billion, Windows 2000 was released and Microsoft is ruled to have put an oppressive thumb on it's competitors.

November 23: Miami-Dade County in Florida refused to recount their ballots, and were not forced to by the Florida Supreme Court. A major setback for the Al Gore campaign in their efforts to win the state of Florida and the Presidency.
November 24: The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to consider George W. Bush's appeal against the hand recounting of presidential ballots in Florida.
November 26: Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris certified George W. Bush the winner of the state over Al Gore in the state's presidential balloting by 537 votes.
November 28: Bush v. Gore: George W. Bush's lawyers asked the U.S. Supreme Court to bring "legal finality" to the 2000 Election. Al Gore opposed the idea of the Supreme Court interfering from Florida's recount.
November 7 2000
November 7: George W. Bush defeats Al Gore to become the 43rd President. The result of the election was disputed and took over a month and a Supreme Court (Bush v. Gore) decision before the outcome was known.
