20/20 is a news magazine that pairs investigative pieces, human-interest stories and celebrity features. Created by ABC News executive Roone Arledge, the show was designed similarly to CBS's 60 Minutes but with more of a focus on human interest stories. After a widely panned first episode, the show underwent a drastic changes, including replacing the two co-hosts with then, semi-retired journalist Hugh Downs. The year after its premier Barbara Walters joined the show as a semi-regular contributor until joining as a co-anchor with Downs in 1984.
