1967 Borders

Guide Note: The 1967 Borders are those established between Israel and the territories now known as the Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, and The West Bank following the Six Day War. The legitimacy of the border has been a major issue in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and has caused considerable contention between Israel and neighboring states.

On April 21, 2008 it was announced that, following discussions with Jimmy Carter, the majority party in the Palestinian National Authority, Hamas, would accept the post-1967 borderlines as a condition of a peace agreement. Critics point out that in many significant ways, like the refusal to recognize the state of Israel or to renounce terrorism, Hamas had not indicated any change in its position regarding peace with Israel.
