October 1947
- October 5: Harry Truman delivers the first Presidential speech on television asking Americans to cut back on food usage.
- October 20: The House Un-American Activities Committee opened hearings into alleged Communist influence in the motion picture industry
November 1947
- November 2: Hollywood producer Howard Hughes flies the Spruce Goose for 1 minute over Long Beach Harbor, California. The wooden airplane was the largest ever built with a wingspan of over 320 feet.
- November 25: As Joseph McCarthy hunted for Communists on American soil, actors, producers and those known as the Hollywood Ten became blacklisted from Hollywood for refusing to testify.
- November 29: The United Nations votes to split Palestine into two states - 1 Jewish, 1 Arab.
December 1947
- December 3: "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams opened on Broadway.
- December 27: A pioneer in children's programming, The Howdy Doody Show debuts on NBC
