Tequila is made from Blue Agave plants from Mexico. The plant grows in volcanic soil, which is full of minerals. It takes eight years for the plants to ripen. The hard pit, called a pina, is cut from the plant and steamed in stone ovens for 48 hours. This is to enhance the flavor. The pits are then pressed for the juice. This juice is double-distilled then aged in oak barrels 1800 Tequila: Production (2007).
